You Are My Hero

You are my hero, you are the star,

You play a role on a bigger screen

that saves me, my family, and my friends.

You need no camera, need no make up.

You are the brave heart, you are supreme.

You are the wall that protects me from

the enemy I know, the enemy I don't.

You keep vigil in hot sun and freezing

cold, and I relax with AC and heater.

You make sure that I do that and enjoy.

I know you are far from your loved ones,

But you ensure I spend time with mine,

You risk your everything in a distant land,

You make me hold my baby close to me.

You see my days and nights are full of joy.

You may be distant, colors of rainbow,

But hey, you are no stranger to me,

You are my family, my brother, my sister,

You are my ideal, you are my icon,

You are my glory, you are my hero.

Thank you, salute you, I love you the best,

Generations before and generations to come

sing your praises, and applaud your deeds,

Millions are praying, you come back safe,

The pride of the nation, with a job well done.

[In a tribute to the troops, July 4, 2008]

A ‘veteran – whether active duty, discharged, retired or reserve – is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check payable to ‘The United States of America,’ for an amount of ‘up to, and including his life.’ That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact.
